Glutathione

Glutathione is an extremely powerful antioxidant that has two main roles: supporting the immune response of cells and their recovery after an encounter with viruses. When our body has increased levels of oxidative stress – the levels of antioxidants decrease, including glutathione.

Oxidative stress is the result of an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body. Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules that contain an odd number of electrons. They contain one unpaired electron and can easily bond with other molecules and form new compounds. Antioxidants are molecules that counteract free radicals because they can donate an electron to a free radical without producing unstable compounds.

Glutathione is produced naturally in the body, but a number of factors such as stress, bad food, dirty air and cigarette smoke lead to rapid depletion in the body.
