The human body cannot produce folic acid, so it must be obtained from external sources. Folic acid deficiency is detected by conducting blood tests and can be observed in:
- Inadequate intake with food
- In conditions leading to malabsorption of the vitamin (chronic inflammatory bowel diseases)
- Increased needs – during pregnancy
- Taking certain medications
Natural sources of vitamin B9 are all leafy greens, broccoli, tomatoes, beans, whole grains, chickpeas, liver, eggs, beef, etc.
